LKS2 Coding Sessions
Children will create simple presentations and conversations using appropriate software and apps as well as undertaking activities to understand debugging. Children will also look at using coding to incorporate mathematical concepts, particularly in shape and space.

Scratch is a visual, block-based coding environment that introduces pupils to key computational concepts through creative audio and interactive media projects. Aligned with Lower Key Stage 2 learning goals, pupils move from simple sequences to designing musical algorithms, event-driven animations, and interactive games. Through hands-on project building, children learn to apply sequence, event triggers, and repetition (loops) to control sprites, compose digital music, and construct dynamic game mechanics.
What the session could include
- Classroom Activities
- Year 3 & 4 (Lower Key Stage 2):
- Sequencing & Musical Algorithms: Creating ordered sequences of instructions to build digital instruments and soundscapes, exploring how code order directly affects audio output and performance timing.
- Events, Actions & Interaction: Designing interactive stories and animations by programming sprites to respond to specific event triggers (such as key presses, clicks, or sprite collisions).
- Repetition & Game Design: Using count-controlled and forever loops to design and debug games (such as maze runners or catch games), making code efficient while managing movement, scoring, and level changes.
