Equilibrium
Helping schools to address misogyny and harmful sexual behaviour with confidence and care
Schools are increasingly aware of the challenges posed by misogyny, harmful sexual behaviour, and the influence of the online world. These issues are not always visible, but they can significantly affect pupils’ safety, wellbeing, and learning.
The Equilibrium Project, part of Engagedu’s safeguarding services, provides schools with the insight, resources, and support they need to respond with confidence. Our work is grounded in national findings from Ofsted and the Children’s Commissioner.
“Sexual harassment, including online sexual abuse, has become ‘normalised’ for children and young people.” — Ofsted, 2021
This makes clear that schools must act proactively, ensuring that harmful attitudes and behaviours are identified and addressed early.
What We Offer
-
Surveys for pupils, parents and staff
-
Whole-school surveys give a clear picture of attitudes and experiences related to misogyny, gender, and sexual behaviour. Each school receives tailored feedback to highlight areas of strength and identify where action may be needed.
-
Resources for Years 5, 6 and 7
-
Misogynistic beliefs and problematic behaviours can begin at a young age. Our age-appropriate resources help pupils to explore:
-
Gender stereotyping and equality
-
Building healthy self-worth and respectful relationships
-
The influence of the online world on attitudes and behaviour
-
“Children are digital pioneers and we need to listen, learn and act on what they tell us – especially when it comes to the online world.” — Children’s Commissioner
These resources help young people develop respectful, healthy perspectives and give schools practical tools to guide these conversations.
-
Ongoing support and guidance
-
For schools facing more complex challenges, such as persistent harmful sexual behaviour or entrenched attitudes, we provide ongoing expert advice, guidance, and staff support.
Why Equilibrium?
“Schools, colleges and multi-agency partners should act as though it is happening to children and young people in their care, even when there are no specific reports.” — Ofsted, 2021
Equilibrium enables schools to meet this expectation, creating safer, more respectful environments. By tackling misogyny and harmful sexual behaviour directly, schools can build a culture of respect and inclusion where all pupils feel safe, valued, and able to thrive.
Equilibrium in Practice
Here is how a school might typically engage with Equilibrium:
-
Survey Phase
-
The school runs surveys with staff, pupils, and parents. Results highlight where harmful attitudes and behaviours are most concerning — for example, Year 6 boys expressing sexist views, or girls reporting online harassment.
-
-
Feedback and Planning
-
Our team shares a tailored feedback report with leadership. Together, we identify clear priorities — such as addressing misogynistic language, or tackling peer-on-peer online abuse.
-
-
Resource Delivery
-
The school delivers our lessons and activities with Years 5–7, giving pupils opportunities to challenge stereotypes, build self-worth, and understand the impact of online culture.
-
-
Ongoing Support
-
If further challenges arise — for example, repeated incidents of harmful sexual behaviour — we provide expert advice, training, and resources to help the school respond confidently and consistently.
-
By combining evidence, education, and support, Equilibrium offers schools a practical, structured way to create lasting culture change.
